Oak Cliff is the common name given to much of southern Dallas, but it actually began as a small community on the west banks of the Trinity River (in an area known today as north Oak Cliff). Settlers first began settling here in the early 1800's, but the town of Oak Cliff really began to take shape in the mid to late 1800's. In 1890, Oak Cliff incorporated as a city and was eventually annexed by the city of Dallas in 1903.

Today, Oak Cliff is a community in transition; many of the area's historical homes and structures have been renovated, restored, or repurposed. Other areas that had fallen into disrepair and decay are now seeing new life. Significant new development, a growing business community, and strong civic support have made Oak Cliff a popular choice for families and young business professionals.
